For
thousands of years the İda Mountains have been said to belong to “MA”,
meaning mother of all gods, so called by the Anatolian people living
in this area.
İn
modern times they are called the Kaz Mountains “MATER DEUM MAGNA
İDAEUM (İDA)” from the Latin translated “Mother God’s Almighty
Mountains”.
Located
in the northern part of the Aegean, the İda and Madra Mountains where
know as ‘MİSİA’, and blessed in the name of these Gods.
The
view from both, the İda and Madra Mountains offers a splendid sight of
a wide valley separating the two. Referred to as the ”Passage Valley”
is where Adramytteion was built, now called Ören.
According to mythology today’s Ören was once the place where the Gods
İda and Madra used to meet. 600 B.C. Adramytteion was founded as a
fortress town by Adramys, brother of the Lydian King Krezü. Claimed
towards the end of the 19th century by the Provice of Bursa as the
“Square Starboard Belt County”, is now know to be the aegean seashore
center for recreation and entertainment in Burhaniye County.
Ören
marks it presence in the Nothern Light Coast of the Aegean Region,
with century old acorn trees lining one-storied homes, over-seeing the
many greens and blues of ocean and mountains.
A hidden
paradise with a unique beach, to be found only 151 km from Çanakkale
and 103 km from Balıkesir on the land-route.
The
İstanbul – İzmir Bus Lines servis this route on a frequent bases,
which makes the location very accesible.Ören, only 4 km to Burhaniye
shops, has managed to preserve it’s lovely country charm with sandy
beaches and a shallow seashore.
Ören is
also know to be the summer residence to many of Turkey’s known writers,
artist ,and intellectuals.Even in the most sweltering heat of summer,
one can find relieve with Ören’s windy breezes, coming in from the
Gulf of Edremit.
The
month of August is marked with culturel activities including the olive
and turizm festivals.
Health
conscientious vacationers seek out Ören for it’s many thermal springs,
found in the surrounding towns, in combination to the oxygen rich air
of the mountains.
The
current excavation of the ruins of Adramytteion is still in progress
in the heart of Ören and open to the public. Assistant Professor
Doctor Tülin Çoruhlu of the Sakarya University is supervising the
excavation, with the Archeological Society of Ören providing the
lojistics, and the Burhaniye Municipality giving financial support. |
